Kalepa is looking for a Lead Product Designer to lead the design, evolving experience, and growth of our world-class software for commercial insurance underwriters.

We believe that strong design and empathy are foundational to reimagining commercial insurance. Underwriters have a very difficult mandate – balancing speed-to-quote and strong customer relationships with accurate and thorough analysis of risks. Technology solutions in the industry have been unable to empower underwriters and have typically lacked customer focus, usability, and, ultimately, true value creation. Kalepa’s AI-powered Underwriting Copilot aims to change that. The Lead Product Designer will have a broad remit across product management, UX design, and UX research to drive this vision forward and position underwriters to be far more impactful in their work.

Kalepa is a New York based, VC backed, startup building software to transform and disrupt commercial insurance. Nearly one trillion ($1T) dollars are spent globally each year on commercial insurance across small, medium, and large enterprises. However, the process for estimating the risk associated with a given business across various perils (e.g. fire, injury, malpractice) is still reliant on inefficient and inaccurate manually-entered forms or outdated and sparse databases. This information asymmetry leads to a broken set of economic incentives and a poor experience for both businesses and insurers alike.

By combining cutting edge data science and industry expertise, Kalepa delivers decision-support software to commercial insurance underwriters. Kalepa's AI-powered Copilot enables underwriters to focus their time on the highest ROI opportunities and rapidly evaluate, select, and price risk. By analyzing billions of points of structured and unstructured data, Kalepa's Copilot augments underwriters with insights and recommendations on every risk. Copilot allows each underwriter to perform at the level of the most experienced and effective underwriters and at top efficiency.

Kalepa's team members bring experiences from Facebook, Google, Microsoft, APT (acquired by Mastercard for $600M in 2015), MIT, Berkeley, UPenn, and the Israel Defense Forces.
About you:
● You have a strong drive to deliver exceptional experiences to users of your products

Ideally you feel comfortable with both design and product management. As a plus, you have had experience in software development or a highly quantitative discipline
● You thrive in fast-moving product and team environments
● You have a strong UX/UI/product portfolio that demonstrates clear understanding of user, business, and tech context, ideally with productivity, workflow, and/or B2B applications / tools
● You are a systems thinker. You can solve business problems across a feature set or across a full experience, not just story-by-story. You think about how business requirements map to rules within features.
● You embrace complexity. You are unfazed by complicated requirements, highly analytical and data-heavy products, and negotiating the needs of many users with conflicting objectives
● You have deep empathy. You can truly understand the needs of both our external users and internal stakeholders to align everyone’s goals. You strive to understand how underwriters can benefit from using Kalepa’s products and use that to influence your design decisions
● You have a passion for typography, information hierarchy, interaction design, composition, and usability heuristics. You can combine them to deliver strong functional experiences
● You are organized and detail oriented: You value a well-designed UI system and consistency in design patterns and user workflows
