Journy is a mobile app and web platform that pairs you with a personal trip designer to plan your perfect trip. We put together custom itineraries with hotel, activities, restaurants, and more. Recommendations come from top chefs and handpicked local experts. If you love travel and obsess over the details of planning a trip — this is the perfect position for you.

For this role, we are specifically looking for someone with deep familiarity with Japan, primarily Tokyo and Kyoto.

This is a part-time position (25 hours per week) with the potential to turn into full-time (40 hours per week)


- Directly respond to and fulfill customer requests for custom travel itineraries using a combination of Journy’s algorithmic approach and applying your travel expertise
- Make restaurant reservations and activity bookings on behalf of customers
- Write quality descriptions of places and activities for Journy’s content database
- Keep up to date with the newest restaurant openings and hotspots in your assigned city
- Work weekend and evening hours as needed to support the company during the growth phase


Customer service and empathy run through your veins

- At the end of the day, customer service is what Journy is. We provide our customers with a travel planning service to help them save time and money and we empathize with them when they are planning for their once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon trip and even when plans change last minute. Our Journy concierges show genuine sympathy to our travelers and go out of the way to help make their travel planning as seamless and convenient as possible.

You have an obsession with finding the newest hot-spots, restaurants, and experiences

- Journy specializes in finding that one special experience, perfect meal, or the new trendy spot for our customers. Our Journy concierges keep up-to-date with the newest restaurants openings and study the restaurants scene within each of our cities. Journy concierges make sure that our customers won’t miss out on the best restaurants and trendy openings and even events that are taking place during their trips.

You are able to keep track of many moving parts and manage your time

- A typical Journy concierge will be creating 4-6 itineraries a day, while also managing the 20+ itineraries that have already been created and sent off. Each customer is entitled to one free round of edits, so at any given time you may be in charge of 25+ itineraries and the corresponding bookings and reservations.

You ask for help and communicate clearly and promptly with your team members

- There are many moving parts to keep track of as a Journy concierge and while our concierges are the best travel planners, they are human too! We understand that there will be times when you may need support. Our Journy concierges over-communicate and proactively ask for help when they need it. We work together to provide prompt and excellent service to our customers and you’re also willing to help when a team member needs help too!


Interview and Training:

- Based in NYC (strong preference for candidates based in NYC, but for the right candidate we can consider remote - however, training MUST be in-person in NYC)
- In-person interview in our NYC office (about 2 hours)
- If you pass the interview, must be available immediately for 5 full day trainings. Training will be paid at $12/hour for the first two weeks and after meeting performance metrics (you should be able to build a 3-day itinerary in 1 hour or less), you'll be bumped to $15 / hour. We will consider FT hire after 30-60 days ($40,000).

If Hired:

- Minimum regular commitment of 25 hours per week
- Pay is $15 / hour (starts at $12 / hour for training), with performance-based bonus tied to productivity, customer satisfaction and QA scores
- Requires you to check in every day for at least 3 hours a day
