Homeroom’s mission is to provide families with high-quality after school classes that are convenient, accessible and affordable. With a majority of American children living in homes where both parents work, the world of aftercare is critically important and Homeroom is working hard to reinvent it.

We’re past finding product-market fit and now we’re experiencing YoY growth of over 400% in both GMV and platform adoption. Just last quarter, families purchased over 13,000 after school enrichment courses on Homeroom and after school providers earned over $3M.

We are backed by top-tier venture firms including Forerunner and Felicis.

About the Role:
Homeroom is seeking an experienced product designer to bring strong design practices, influence product strategy, and improve company-wide product execution and quality. Our ideal candidate will have both an eye for detail and a long-term strategic vision for the product. We are looking for a proven leader, strong communicator, and team player who is ready for an individual contributor role with the opportunity to grow into a leadership role as our team scales.

This role is designed for someone who has big aspirations and is not afraid of a challenge. Our marketplace is complicated and we are moving an entire analog industry online, setting the standards for the millions of people who work in enrichment everyday. We have three stakeholders: families that buy classes, vendors that offer classes, and after school enrichment coordinators that facilitate the programs on their campus.

If you are excited to design for multiple stakeholders as we reshape an industry, this role will interest you.

Because this is our first full-time product designer, we need someone who is as comfortable delivering detailed, pixel-perfect designs to our engineering team as they are building long-term strategic plans. We need someone who can thrive in a fast paced environment and work ego-free with a cross-functional, distributed team.

Homeroom is committed to creating an environment where a diverse mix of talented people want to come, do their best work, and keep contributing to our company’s success. We are dedicated to promoting inclusion in all areas of our business, starting with our hiring process. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status.

In this position, you will:
- Be the first product designer, providing you with a profound opportunity to shape the product and the company.
- Have the responsibility of designing products that are focused on meeting both business goals and the needs of our users.
- Work directly with the CEO, Engineering & Product to influence product strategy and lead the team in executing design work at a high level of quality.
- Enhance the visual design of our application
- Improve how design, product, and engineering work together with your fellow leaders across the three functions.
- Implement a user-centered design culture across the organization.
- Bring Homeroom’s vision to life through strong design and systems thinking.

In order to succeed, you should have:
- At least 5 years of user-centered product design experience
- The ability to explore divergent solutions and clearly articulate why you are making certain design decisions
- Deep empathy for our users and plans for how to keep building on that
- Experience designing for the mobile web and desktop
- A deep sense of ownership over the product and a desire to constantly improve it
- Strong foundation in information design, UX design heuristics, and graphic design (typography, layout, color)
- Applied experience with design tools (Sketch, Figma, etc.)
- Applied experience with prototyping tools (InVision, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Bonus points for:
- Experience conducting user research to better understand users and sharing insights with the rest of your team in a meaningful and actionable way
- Experience designing for marketplaces with conflicting stakeholder needs
- Experience recruiting, hiring, and retaining multi-disciplinary teams

Some perks you have to look forward to:
- Flexible PTO policy
- Healthcare and dental care
- Team lunches every Friday
- Costco’s finest snack selection (open to suggestions)
- A bright and sunny office right above the Civic Center BART station
- Sometimes you can hear the matinee musical coming from the Orpheum Theater from the hallway!
