We are seeking a UI Designer to help us change the way people engage with death and end-of-life planning. You will use your visual design prowess and deep understanding of user behavior to create a consistent and compelling brand experience across our website and cloud-based application.

This is a challenging topic for most people, so we are making it more human and approachable. This is an amazing opportunity to re-brand death.

Working closely with our Product Manager, you will follow an iterative design process to generate a slick and modern website with engaging user interfaces that drive engagement. ***ABOUT CAKE***
Cake (joincake.com) is the easiest way to discover, share, and store your end-of-life preferences. We are a Boston-based, venture-backed, early-stage technology company that’s making end-of-life planning easier. Most people view planning as daunting, confusing, and scary – something to avoid. Cake is changing this notion by employing human-centered design to ease users through the planning process.

Our platform engages consumers, clinicians, and providers to keep everyone on the same page. We’re already working with some of the biggest players in healthcare and insurance, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA, Harvard Pilgrim, and Massachusetts General Hospital.


***At Cake, you’ll be responsible for***
- Creating a slick, compelling website to educate visitors about our brand and platform
- Producing brand visuals and/or illustrations to use across our platform and marketing materials
- Helping establish a reusable style guide
- Working closely with our Product Manager to convert wireframes into beautiful, hi-fidelity mockups and prototypes with user-friendly UI designs and elements
- Lending your expertise in product discussions
- Providing revisions based on team and user feedback


***An ideal candidate has***
- Expertise in UI/UX design of responsive web applications
- Proven ability to create cohesive visual brand identity, including illustrations/visuals
- Experience with Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop, InVision, and Adobe XD
- Excellent communication skills and fast turnaround capability
- A portfolio demonstrating great, minimalist design skills



***Nice-to-have***
- Boston-based or experience working with remote team
- Experience converting pixel-perfect design into HTML and S(CSS)
- Experience designing apps for healthcare
- Knowledge of frontend development and experience creating development-ready designs

Hourly wage TBD based on experience. Possibility to transition into a full-time role.
