i-Subz is a marketplace for quality substitutes and schools that serve our nation's most vulnerable student population - low-income children. We are searching for a Technical Co-Founder ready to help us further develop and oversee the development of our marketplace that makes it easy for substitutes to get work and pay, and for schools to get quality vetted substitutes.

You will manage and drive a product roadmap and will work with Team i-Subz to seamlessly integrate our customers needs into the marketplace. Our goal is to create digital processes that integrate with school systems and substitute workflows so that their jobs are easier.

You will contribute your skills to change the lives of substitutes and schools around our nation.

To do so, you will help shape how we collaborate on product, design, and engineering while keeping educational and workforce impact at the forefront of the venture.

Our ideal candidate will be kind, a strong listener and amazing communicator (as we’ll be in quite a few meetings), as well as super savvy in development, UX/UI, and user research. You should be aware of the capabilities and features of multiple code bases; and should have coding experience. We also want to ensure that you’re okay with tracking KPIs. Even better if you’ve had strong experience in the business, design, and social impact sectors.

You are a professional that’s had some experience in the field and are looking for a social impact opportunity, have launched products successfully and have led production throughout a product’s lifecycle. We also want to ensure that you are okay with talking to and in front of investors (we can help get you ready for this as well).

You are ethically-oriented to protect our nation's most vulnerable populations. You are always respectful, regardless of your status, or the status of others. We have a zero hate and aggression policy.

You have prior experience as a software engineer, hold a CS degree, or have related or comparable experience, preferably in building two-sided markets (and mobile applications). This is a Co-Founder position that will come with equity.

Why we build:

Within the $670B K-12 U.S. space, because of the decline in certified teachers nationwide, the $3.2B substitute teaching gig economy is moving to the forefront of education. The current problem is that the quantity and quality of substitute teachers is poor. Concerning quantity, there are currently 132,853 K-12 schools within the U.S., that employ 3.2 million teachers. Though the number of teachers is declining, the need for substitute teachers is high. Currently, the average absence rate is 10 days per year per teacher accounting for a need of 17.4 million substitutes.

Each year, these 17.4 substitutes are living on or below minimum wage and are waiting weeks for work and payment before they can feed their families. This is slowing the rate at which gig workers are filling substitute teaching jobs. This leaves 50.7 million students at risk of a poor educational experience. Concerning quality, nearly 60% of school districts do not have qualified substitute teachers available when teachers are absent from work due to inadequate screening, hiring, and training practices.

We want to ensure that substitutes, schools, and students within the education ecosystem get the experience and quality they deserve.

Who we are:

We are tech + social impact + education + workforce. We are a small for-profit social startup. Our team members have public and private sector experience with a strong focus on education.

We are in start-up and product development phase. We work mainly in Tampa, FL but also remotely as our advisors are located between the east and west coast. We’re based in Tampa, Florida. i-Subz’s mission is to disrupt the original gig economy - substitute teaching. Our overall vision? To ensure that no substitute, school, or student is left behind in a world of opportunity that rightfully belongs to them.

What we build:

Utilizing automation, we are building a marketplace for substitute teachers and schools that serve low-income students. We make it easy for availability, accessibility, and fit to occur automatically - removing the hindrance of manual functionality. We also automate the payment process so that substitutes are paid quickly.

Our progress:

To date, we have launched a pilot program, began generating revenue, have impacted over 250 students, have raised a friends and family round, and are looking to fund our next raise. We are currently building version two of our marketplace.

i-Subz has participated in Digitalundivided’s BIG Incubator Program Cohort 3, Goodie Nation’s Pre-Accelerator Program, and currently Camelback Ventures 2019 Education Fellowship Program. i-Subz won the Black Girl Ventures 2018 Atlanta Pitch Competition and was a top 10 finalist for the 2019 Google Women Who Tech Pitch Competition in New York, New York.
