The Company

The company’s mission is to make online learning more interactive and fun. We believe anyone, regardless of geography or background, should be able to overcome the barriers to learning alone and build authentic relationships with people who share their interests. The end-users are professionals and lifelong learners who are interested in advancing their career and skills, and are ‘fed up’ with the linear, unengaging experience of 99% of online courses. We are in a similar market to Podia, Thinkific, Virtually, and Teachable. We are not targeting enterprise or institutional customers, like Blackboard or 2U.

The company is remote, but we have a preference for candidates in North American and European timezones.

Product Overview

The product is a ‘self-serve’ web application that makes it easy for online course administrators, education entrepreneurs, and students to supercharge any online course and make it more collaborative and interactive.

This is done by integrating video, scheduling, networking, communities, feedback, and gamification into a single platform that can be added to any asynchronous course.

The benefit to the student is that they receive help overcoming the barriers to learning alone while building authentic professional relationships that can help advance their skills in career and life.

The benefit to the course administrator or education entrepreneur is that they develop an additional source of income while increasing student engagement and brand loyalty, and simplifying workflows related to coordinating live interactions.

Who we're looking for

You’ll be a great fit if you have:

  • At least 4 years of experience building web apps in a production environment.

  • Significant experience working with Express and React frameworks. You should be able to individually build most small to medium features end-to-end across the stack, but you can be much better at frontend than at backend (or vice-versa).

  • Ability to write well designed, clean, efficient code using modern JavaScript (ES6).

  • Experience working with API design, development and maintenance.

  • A solid understanding of how web applications work including security, session management, and best development practices.

  • Strong communication is a must - the position requires constant communication with the team. Candidate will work closely with Howdy’s co-founders during feature spec + design process and then will have the ability to push feature through to completion; including: development, testing, code review, deployment etc.

  • A desire to work in an environment that values speed of iteration and individual autonomy.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience building real-time video apps
  • Experience working with SSO (Auth0, Custom OAuth)
  • Experience building Zapier integrations using the Zapier developer platform
  • Experience building social platforms/community platforms
  • Experience building calendar and scheduling applications (full calendar a double bonus)
  • Experience building APIs for third-party consumption

Regarding salary
We value equity over salary because we want you to be aligned with the success of the business. What that means is the initial salary will be on the lower end but you will have an option to take a higher salary when we raise our next round of financing.
