Firmware Engineer

We are seeking a firmware engineer to develop new, cutting-edge IoT devices. The firmware engineer will be a key player in the overall product development process. We’re a distributed company with team members spanning the globe, but hardware development is being conducted in the Boston Metro-West area. This is a full-time position, with some limited travel.

This is a contract-to-hire position. The start date is ASAP.
The project will be discussed in greater detail with top candidates during interviews.

The Firmware Engineer will be responsible for developing embedded software for remote LPWAN sensors and communication backhaul devices, providing critical data streams to Hala’s cloud analytics system. They will work alongside the hardware engineering team to optimize sensor data collection, transmission, and device power consumption. The devices we deploy operate in environments without reliable infrastructure.

We’re looking for a candidate that can contribute to designing a robust node-to-cloud sensor network. The candidate must write the software for the target processor, conduct testing on the software, document design, and communicate clearly with the team throughout the development process. The candidate may also help the team in other test or development activities on occasion.

Technical Skills and Qualifications
● 3+ years experience writing embedded software. C/C++.
● Experience bringing a firmware design to production
● Knowledge of wireless protocols and standards (Wifi, Zigbee, Lora, BLE, etc)
● Experience interfacing with standard digital interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, etc.)
● Ability to work within tight memory and power-budgets
● Ability to quickly prototype new design concepts
● Experience integrating a device within an IoT system
● Basic scripting experience
● BSEE/CE/CS or equivalent
