Photoluminescent pigments have evolved in the last 15 years, especially since the arrival of alkaline-earth aluminate crystals doped with Eu2þ and Dy3þ, reaching stronger emissions and longer lifetimes after stopping the stimulation. These properties imply higher levels of stored energy and, as related to it, higher limits for the appearance of some saturation effects. In practical applications photoluminescent pigments are frequently embedded in either transparent or translucent media. Sintered glass is an excellent support for efficient photoluminescent pigments. They admit a wide variety of practical applications in decoration and safety signs, because of its mechanical and chemical properties.
