About Fairmarkit

We're a Boston-based startup backed by leading venture capitalists disrupting how companies make purchasing decisions. Organizations ranging from the MBTA to ServiceNow trust us to guide their purchasing.

Fairmarkit’s mission is to revolutionize how procurement tail spend is handled. Tail spend is 20% of the total spend that organizations direct towards non-strategic procurement. (For instance, think of a car company buying 10,000 screws or hiring 50 people.) Not only are companies overpaying for this but 80% of the average company’s vendors are bidding to provide its least valuable items, making it a management nightmare. Fairmarkit is a groundbreaking SaaS platform that automates visibility into and control of all tail spend processes. Additionally, Fairmarkit’s unique procurement automation solution cuts spend by 15%+.

We're growing incredibly quickly, just raised a $11m Series A, and are looking for a rockstar to join our team.

We are looking for a Product Designer to continue transforming procurement with user-friendly, seamless, and frankly stunning products for buyers and sellers alike. You will play a leading role defining the look and feel of our products and experiences as we scale in our next phase of growth -- and we’re going to do a lot of growing. If you’re excited about making truly meaningful impacts in the daily lives of procurement teams and for expanding the opportunity for vendors to grow their businesses, we’d love to talk with you.

Who You Are:

• You like to dig into the user experience and business impacts of a feature as much as you enjoy creating a pixel-perfect interface. You’re excited about ideating, testing, and iterating quickly, but you take very seriously the responsibility we have to provide our customers and vendors a consistently incredible experience that’s unlike any other procurement tool they’ve used.
• You can synthesize complex information architecture into a user-friendly experience. You might have a “consumer” design sensibility, but you’re excited about the challenge of bringing that sensibility to products not typically known for their user-friendliness or automation. You might have strong opinions on a needless and outdated distinction between consumer and enterprise design.
• You’re excited about user research and finding ways to collect data. You are thrilled about the opportunity to test hypotheses about how people use our products and act on our guidance. You always find the time to conduct efficient post-mortems on designs and experiences so the next versions will be more successful.
• You’re thrilled at the possibility of uncovering insights from a broad diversity of users and customers. You care deeply about making sure we keep accessibility at the forefront of our experiences because our success is dependent on our users’ ability to implement our tools in their own businesses and workflows.
• You love to pitch in and collaborate with team members at all levels of an organization, and don’t view many tasks as “someone else’s job”. We are growing and evolving quickly, and we want you to grow alongside us. You are able to ask for support when you need it, and to offer to support to others when you have experience they can leverage.
• You are a great communicator, listener, and collaborator. You’re able to compromise when it makes sense, but you have strength in your convictions -- backed up by data, of course.

Responsibilities

• Lead design for all of Fairmarkit’s customer and vendor experiences across desktop and mobile. You’ll be a key partner to our product, engineering, executive, and operations teams to translate industry and user challenges into innovative, beautiful user experiences. You’ll keep us on our toes internally, challenging us not just to build products that work well but that completely upend expectations for what procurement experiences can be.
• Work closely with our product, engineering, and executive leadership to identify, refine, execute, and iterate on product designs and features.
• Bring your experiences from other organizations to our team so that we can learn continuously and scale effectively. We want to get better each day and look forward to learning from you on ways to do that!
• Ensure our product experience and brand identity are aligned, in partnership with our marketing and growth teams.
• Conduct user research and synthesize findings into actionable design outputs -- this includes wireframes for design reviews and high-fidelity designs for engineering, as well as other assets that help us validate ideas while moving quickly. You’re as comfortable with a Sharpie and a stack of Post-Its as you are with Sketch, InVision, etc.
• Lead design reviews with the product and leadership teams, aligning your perspective, research outputs, and point of view with Fairmarkit’s business objectives and goals.

Relevant Experience and Background We’d Love to See

• At least 5 years of relevant design experience with digital products and experiences. We don’t expect you to have direct procurement industry experience (although that would help you ramp quickly!), but we do look for a user-oriented design portfolio highlighting substantial experience with complex digital products. SaaS experience highly desired.
• Experience using (if not designing and implementing) a design system for a product or platform: you appreciate how design consistency and development efficiency create a great user experience.
• Experience designing for business users with various organizational roles and technical levels of expertise.
• You have extensive experience with UI, UX, or visual design, and a true passion for digital product design.
• Experience iterating on products and features from MVP to general-availability. You have designed onboarding experiences and measured performance of the products you’ve introduced, throughout their lifecycle.
• Experience partnering directly and closely with product and engineering to design and iterate.

Skills You’ll Bring to the Team

• Able to break a complex product or feature set into MVP components: you might have taken wildly abstract concepts and turned them into live A/B tests that yielded valuable user insights and informed product direction.
• You are clear and proactive, but humble, when explaining your design decisions to cross-functional teams; you invite and appreciate constructive feedback from different perspectives.
• Able to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and deliverables by focusing on value to our customers, our business, and our team.
• Self-directed and self-motivated, but passionate about making sure your teammates are supported and given opportunities to grow and succeed as well. Direct reports and mentees would describe you as an empathetic advocate.
• Passion for startup environments and excitement about taking on challenges (on occasion) which fall outside the description here. We’re growing rapidly and want you to grow with us!
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. You love helping other people understand not just the output, but the background behind any designs you produce.
• Comfort with and excitement for working with a distributed team, in addition to our Boston headquarters team. (While this role is based in Boston, we are flexible and accommodating about working from home/remotely when you need it.)

This Company is an equal opportunity employer, and selects individuals best matched for the job based upon job-related qualifications regardless of race, religion, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, ancestry, national origin, gender identity, genetic information, disability, pregnancy, veteran or military status or any other status or characteristic protected by law.
