Bring the world closer together

Bring the world closer together

Founded in 2004, Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what’s going on in the world, and to share and express what matters to them. Facebook is defined by our unique culture – one that rewards impact. We encourage people to be bold and solve the problems they care most about. We work in small teams and move fast to develop new products, constantly iterating. Together, we can help people build stronger communities — we're just getting started.

  • Facebook confirmed this week that it’s testing a new feature that encourages users to post and share news in miniature social networks focused on small geographical areas.

  • The feature, named Neighborhoods, is currently being tested in just a single market, Calgary in Canada, but it’s likely Facebook will roll out access more widely if the test is a success.

  • Facebook announced its Messenger API has also been updated to allow businesses to manage their communications across Instagram, in addition to Messenger .
  • Before businesses could only respond to customer inquiries through the Instagram app and through Facebook’s unified business inbox. This could work for some smaller businesses, but for larger brands with a high volume of messages, it could be difficult to be efficient this way.
  • The update means businesses will be able to now also integrate Instagram messaging into the applications and workflows they’re already using in-house to manage their Facebook conversations.
