Technical writers communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating our internal and client-facing documentation as per queries. Technical writers play a big part at ESSI. They are a key link between engineering, marketing, and external entities, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the complex integration ecosystems.

80% of our Training and Documentation Associates at ESSI have a Bachelor's degree in a technical field. 20% have a Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or Journalism. 100% of T&D Associates joined with at least 1 year of writing/editing experience in a professional writing position and experience with source code written in C#, Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, Scala, C, or Go.
As you grow at ESSI, you will gain experience in document processing, spreadsheets, database management, content management systems, and graphics production software while working under time constraints, high operational tempo, and deadlines.
We focus heavily on writing or editing physical security, enterprise resilience, employee welfare, analytical, and/or health and safety documents, presentations, and tools, while honing on collaboration and facilitation skills.
As a Technical Writer at ESSI, you’ll be part of a tight knit team working to ensure that we are prepared and ready to manage physical security, enterprise security resilience, and large scale operational incidents effectively, with the least amount of impact on our business, clients, or brand. You’ll act as a document control specialist for cross-product teams throughout the product life-cycle, writing, editing, and rewriting technical content as well as enforcing document standards, reviewing for completeness, and organizing reviews. You will also partner with various levels of the organization to ensure a document is technically accurate, typo-free, grammar and punctuation appropriate and proper, and that the writing reflects ESSI's brand.

In this role, you will work as a resource specialist in writing, cataloging, and maintaining business and technical publications. You will creates, writes, and edit publications, including reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, procedures, and related materials. Additionally, you will conduct interviews with subject-matter experts to understand and present technical materials and parameters of technical content and the presentation of such content.

As a member of the Systems and Software R&D team, you will help develop a culture where safety, security and resiliency are integrated into every facet of the organization, including the creative process. You will help us continually identify, evaluate and monitor enterprise risks that could affect business activities and provide business leaders the information they need to make critical decisions. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create innovative strategies and develop programs that drive sustainable effectiveness.

Responsibilities

Be involved in writing projects from the planning stage through to completion or join at the draft or final product review stage to review, edit, and rewrite copies as necessary - performing various levels of edits are necessary.

Set and ensure document standards are enforced, such as organization, logical order and structure, presentation, word use, illustration, comprehensibility, completeness and correctness, retrievability, tone, coherence, and gender-neutral style.

Assist writers in developing material, planning or assisting with the planning of the documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and intranet, necessary for a project, including but not limited to content and other resource requirements or references.

Uses rule-based editing to make a document correct, consistent, accurate, and complete through spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, hyphenation, adherence to legal requirements (copyright, trademarks, etc.), internal consistency (design, typography, layout and illustrations), and bibliographic references and citation as appropriate.

Uses analysis-based editing to evaluate the document or product for concept, content, organization, form, and style and make it functional for readers.

Interact with Engineering teams, as well as contractors and vendors, to produce multiple types of professional writing.

Work with management to organize existing documentation, identify deficiencies and prioritize solutions. Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.

Obtain information by interviewing and collaborating with client facing teams.

Research and write excellent documentation for developers (APIs, SDKs, web
technologies).

Produce documents that can be understood by technical teams and prepare for external publication. Act as the designated contact for suggestions and updates to documents.

Develop innovative solutions to resolve complex tasks. Work on solutions that improve processes and practices, including maintenance processes and tools.
