Roles and responsibility:

We are a leading education technology seed stage VC looking to hire an Associate focused on supporting the full lifecycle of our investments, with a primary focus on creating market research.

About us:

Emerge Education is a leading education technology-focused seed fund, based in London. Our mission is to support passionate founders developing technologies to radically improve learning outcomes and career prospects. Finding a fulfilling learning environment or job should not depend on luck but rather on the desire and willingness to learn and apply knowledge gained. We believe technology can help make world-class education and careers accessible to everyone and thus reduce inequality.

With 50+ completed investments to date since 2014, including Unibuddy, Crehana and Morressier, we are launching our new fund together with an exceptional group of education partners and advisers. While we will continue to invest in companies across the entire education industry, this fund will be especially focused on opportunities in tertiary and life-long learning, bridges from education to work and corporate training. We are an entrepreneurial hard-working team of five, supported by a global network of corporates, investors and advisers.

The role will cover:

- Key research and external publication: Primary and secondary research into top trends in tertiary education / bridges from education to work to help refine and strengthen our investment hypotheses, supported by the Emerge team and our partner Jisc – the IT and technology provider for all universities in the UK; producing publication-ready thought pieces and subsector market briefs on a monthly basis (2.5 days a week)

- Due diligence research: Research into other areas in education, with an emphasis on life-long learning and corporate learning, as well as any research required to support the Emerge investment team as part of the startup market due diligence process (0.5 days a week)

- Events attendance and organisation: Attend UK education events to identify potential investment prospects and lead on organising events for our portfolio companies and network (1 day a week)
Company sourcing: Support finding top education technology companies through Emerge’s proprietary technology and your own network and outreach (0.5 days a week)

- Portfolio reporting and monitoring: Assist in collecting information from our portfolio on quarterly progress and provide portfolio support as and when needed (0.5 days a week)

Candidate background:

We are looking for a driven professional with a strong passion for creating a positive impact at scale through education technology. Ideally 2-4 years of experience in consulting or finance, with an emphasis on research and analytical skills, as well as people skills. Top profiles will have:

- Strong research and analytical skills; ability to derive clear structured insights from vast amounts of information and data, providing clear examples of prior such work

- Project management skills and working to tight deadlines; while you will be supported in structuring and reviewing your research work on a weekly basis, it is essential that you are a self-starter that can independently navigate and tolerate uncertainty and ambiguity, make decisions independently and effectively follow agreed deadlines

- Good people and networking skills; your day to day work will involve conversations with various stakeholders of various seniority. Ability to tailor questions and tone to the right level and build strong relationships is essential

- Passion for education is a big plus; we all live and breathe education at Emerge and are looking for someone that shares our passion for the sector and can show this through knowledge of the space, previous work or extracurricular experiences

£45k starting salary. Ability to move into a more senior investment role after 2 years upon closing of our next fund.
