Digital Healthcare Transformation Tool
Senior Data Engineer£60k – £75k
What do we want? Senior Data Engineer (SQL). When do we want you? Now!
We are on the lookout for a Senior Data Engineer (SQL)to help design and implement our next generation data structures.
You will be a lead engineer working on our transactional and reporting databases. As a data engineer you will be creating the production ready pipelines to move and transform the data. These should be scalable, efficient, testable and deployed using our CI/CD tools.
You will be leading on our move from our monolith database to individual data stores per service. You will be responsible for modelling the data objects, designing the structure of the new schemas and improving the performance of queries.
This will be a key role in our nascent data function. You will be working cross-functionally with business domain experts, engineers, product analysts and client delivery teams to understand data and reporting requirements from our BI. You will then be responsible for making sure they have the information they need in order to make key decisions using data.
We have fast and frequent deployments, good test coverage and a young codebase. You will have a direct effect on what we do and how we do it. This role is ideal for candidates with a desire to learn and accelerate their careers. We can give you exposure to every facet of enterprise SaaS software and as much responsibility as you are ready to handle.
OK, That’s me. But who are you?
DrDoctor is a fast-growing digital health company founded in 2012. Our technology improves appointment scheduling, increases clinic efficiency by reducing no-shows and fills empty slots. We save the NHS millions of pounds each year and are currently deployed across 22 major hospitals around the UK including Guy’s and St Thomas’ & Great Ormond Street. With over 7 million patients active on the platform already, we’re on a journey to deliver the tools to radically transform the delivery of health services to make healthcare work for everyone – for patients, doctors, administrative teams and tax payers.
Tell me more! Who will I be working with?
In this role you really will interact with every part of the business on a daily basis, even as we grow.
But meet Joe
I’m Joe, I work in the marketing team and I have been here for just over a year. I love the idea that my work is contributing towards the improvement of the NHS. To me it’s also the ultimate challenge. How can you take a complex and interconnected web of systems and help them to operate more efficiently? A great question to have at the back of your mind. To succeed at DrDoctor, you need a degree of aptitude, but bags of drive and a willingness to learn both within and beyond your role. We’re a close-knit bunch who all socialise regularly with each other, and our work is fundamentally collaborative, so you must be comfortable working in groups.
OK, I’m interested. What experience do I need to have?
You will need strong experience in scaling and optimizing schemas, performance tuning SQL and ETL pipelines in the OLTP, OLAP and Data Warehouse environments. As well as a solid experience of SSIS you should have hands on experience of other data platforms for moving and transforming (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Spark/Scala).
You should be comfortable in working with people across the business to understand what information they really require and what is the most important. You should understand the different non-SQL data technologies and know when it may be more appropriate to store information in one of those.
We are looking for someone who loves technology and has the drive to push, challenge and grow the company. You’ll need to be as ambitious as we are and revel in the flexible nature and mix of skills required for startup work. We’re primarily office based but supportive of flexible and remote working so days at home or nursery runs are not a problem.
Strong skills/experience in
- SQL (5+ years)
- Designing OLAP/OLTP data schema
- Performance tuning queries
- Azure SQL
- Data Factory
- Analysis Services
Managing servers and users (SQL admin)
Some experience in (and/or desire to learn)
Bonus points for:
- Document databases/NoSQL
- Streaming updates to BI
- GitHub profile, blog posts, other online repos
- Automated testing (one or more of: Unit Testing, Spec Testing, TDD, BDD etc.)
- Healthtech experience
- A desire to learn and grow your skills
- Can explain your point in sprint planning when everyone is looking at you oddly
- Happy to work from a pub on a Friday afternoon
