Our vision is to bring gaming communities together

Discord is the all-in-one voice, video and text chat app designed specifically for gamers. It's free, secure, and works on both desktop and phone. Discord's mission is to bring people together around games. Diversity and inclusiveness are a critical part of how we get there. Everyone here believes that with diversity comes a better product, better decisions, and a better work environment. We are committed to making Discord representative of the world we want to live and play in. Two hundred seventy million PC gamers use chat apps to communicate while playing online games. As gamers, we got fed up with many of these chat tools and decided to fix the problem ourselves. As a result, we've built the best all-in-one voice and text chat app for gamers. Fortunately, a lot of people love it. Discord currently has 87 million registered users with over 14 million Daily Active Users. The service sees 9.5 billion messages posted a month, 1.5M new users per week and in 130 countries.

  • The surprise success of InnerSloth’s game Among Us was one of the bigger Twitch stories that happened this summer: over the last month, the game shot up a full 650 percent in hours watched on the site.
  • Its success has spawned other successes, too. Among Us’ spike in popularity has led to Discord’s mobile app downloads hitting new heights. As Apptopia’s Adam Blacker recently observed: “Discord has been hitting a new lifetime high for mobile app downloads every day since September 5th.” That’s around 800,000 installs a day.

  • Discord attracted more than 300 million registered users, up from 250 million a year ago and quadruple the figure from 2018. Some 100 million people use it actively every month, a 50%-plus increase in a year, making Discord roughly a third the size of Twitter or Snapchat. Altogether the users spend 4 billion minutes each day either texting, voice chatting or video messaging via the app.
  • Its broader appeal has also captured the attention of venture investors. Index Ventures’ Danny Rimer, called them in February to offer more money. In a deal not previously reported, founders agreed in June to take another $100 million in venture funding—at a $3.5 billion valuation, up from $2.05 billion 18 months ago.
  • The funding comes with the understanding Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, who hold stakes in the startup worth probably more than $350 million each, will continue to broaden the app’s audience and focus on growing revenue.
  • Discord is on track to top $120 million in sales this year, up from around $70 million last year, fueled by its subscription service called Nitro, which allows users to customize their profiles and the Discord groups that they belong to.
