CoMind is building non-invasive brain-computer interfaces focused on dramatically increasing our understanding of the brain and changing how we interact with computers.

CoMind is looking for a VP of Hardware Engineering who has hands-on experience working with medical equipment, consumer electronics or other relevant hardware experience. You will design lenses and use optical technologies to improve brain imaging technologies. You will be working in a rapidly growing team to build technology which will change how humans interact with technology. You will be leading a team of Electrical Engineers, Neuroscientists and Optical Engineers to create a new form of neuroimaging. You must have previous experience leading engineering teams and must have experience working in either optical engineering, electrical engineering, neuroimaging or hardware engineering.

You should have a thorough understanding of hardware engineering, optical engineering or optical imaging. You must have experience leading teams of over 20 engineers and have hired more than 5 candidates into those roles.

You should be able to effectively lead a diverse and multidisciplinary team of engineers and physicists. You should be able to effectively communicate your needs, concepts, and ideas to the rest of the team to enable them to transform these into designs and systems. You should have an entrepreneurial mindset and a very strong work ethic. You must be a fast learner and adaptable to different problems even if you don’t have as much experience in that area.


M.S. or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or other relevant fields or experience within the industry.
5+ years of experience within industry building hardware products either specified in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering or Research.
2+ years in academic research or other relevant research.
2+ years in an Engineering Management/CTO/VP role, managing teams of greater than 20 engineers.
Ideally, experience working in a fast-paced start-up type environment from early stage.
Track record of attracting and hiring phenomenal engineers into roles such as electrical engineers or optical engineers.
Fluent scientific programming in Matlab, Python or C++ or equivalent.
Experience building and designing optical imaging hardware, consumer optics, medical imaging or neuroimaging devices (Ideally fNIRS or DOT).
Experience using Ultrasound transducers and relevant technologies.
Experience working with external partners for prototyping and manufacturing of lenses or other optical elements.
Experience conducting research experiments.
Proof of exceptional ability in optical engineering, electrical engineering or a similar field.
Highly creative first principle thinker who thrives on hard problems and is a natural people person and leader.
Experience leading a team, creating plans, forecasting and assigning workload and resources.
You want to make the world a better place and build tools to enhance our understanding of the brain.


Experience building and designing optical spectroscopy, optical imaging, such as microscopes and telescopes.
3+ years of experience using and designing optoelectronic devices.
5+ examples of patent authorship and invention disclosures or relevant academic research papers in a relevant field.
1+ years of experience using avalanche photodiodes, single photon detector and avalanche photodiode arrays and experience testing and designing DFB and VCSEL laser diodes.
1+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering.
Personal projects and an extensive portfolio of relevant work done in your own time.
Excellent documentation and communication skills.
