About Cognicept :

No one is perfect...not even robots. Cognicept Systems steps in when robots get confused. Founded in 2018, Cognicept is focused on allowing robots to thrive in the wild of warehouses, hotels, and sidewalks, outside of the comfort of their predictable environments. What sets us apart is our human approach to this -- we realize there is a need for human intervention when automation fails. Cognicept’s “Robot Trainers” use proprietary intervention system to remotely troubleshoot any robot related issue. By making previously unpredictable applications reliable and enabling robots to perform to higher standards, we enable our customers to focus on what they do best. Our product currently serves mobile robotics platforms that operate in unstructured environments but our goal is to quickly expand into new and exciting use-cases, including robotics arms, vision systems, and aerial vehicles.

We are backed by a top 3 VC firm and have been featured in Yahoo News, Tech in Asia, Association of Computing Machinery, and The Business Times. We have offices in Singapore and India. We are quickly expanding to other major cities around the world.

Cognicept is committed to building diverse, transparent, and all-star teams, and view this as core to pushing our vision forward. We are also invested in the development and growth of our employees. If you have a love of learning, are drawn to hard problems, and want to build a bridge to our future, we’d love to meet you.

Job Description

We are seeking a software engineer with a background and a passion for robotics. As one of the first hires in this fast-growing startup, you will report to the CTO and you will be instrumental to the development of CRISP, our robot intervention system. You will also pioneer our long-term strategy of assisting robotics companies with open-source modules, developed in conjunction with major ROS partners, for error diagnosis and resolution.

Key responsibilities :

Design and development of application-layer backend services/microservices to communicate with robots
Create and maintain the open source projects for the owned modules, from requirement gathering to release.
Design embeddable applications that communicate with ROS based robots.
Understand robot-based, and sensor-based errors, and write algorithms for manual/automated processes and resolutions.
Create robust, modular, and elegant error diagnostics stacks for robots deployed in multiple verticals.
Collaborate with software engineers from DevOps and Data team to develop core technologies.

About You :

You are a pioneer -- if you find yourself in uncharted territory, you blaze a new trail for your colleagues and chart it.
You never delay what can be done right now -- there is no such thing as a blocker, there are only detours. If doors are shut, you use the window.
You speak plainly -- we view mistakes as opportunities to improve and believe openness is key.
You can zoom in and out -- you are equally comfortable seeing the big picture and “getting into the weeds”.
You are obsessed with customer experience.

Skills/Qualifications :

Although these are not must-haves, these qualifications are quite reflective of the talent we’re looking for. If you meet certain criteria, and you feel you can catch up in a short learning curve on the others, feel free to apply :

BS / MS / PhD from CS / Robotics / Electrical Engineering, or an MS / PhD from Physics. Minimum 2 years of experience, if you’re not an MS / PhD.
A clear understanding of ROS framework. Experience with ROS 2.0 would be a great plus.
Experience with backend application development, using either C++ / Python and/or using Web-based languages like Javascript / NodeJS.
Experience with SQLite / PostGRE / MongoDB or any Relational Database
Understanding of Agile framework for product management would be helpful.
Great team communicator.

At Cognicept, we offer you :

Get in on the ground floor of a fast growing startup in the burgeoning robotics field, working closely with Cognicept’s founders.
A fast-moving and motivated team to work with.
An opportunity to design the tech stack of an early startup from scratch.
Leadership and growth opportunities in the fast-growing smart robotics industry.
Focused mentorship and training to guide you forward in your career.

As part of our screening process, we'd request that you fill out the following Google Form.

Once the form is submitted, we will review your application and contact you should it be appropriate to schedule an interview.
