Codecademy was started in 2011 by two college students in a dorm room at Columbia that were frustrated by the huge gap between education and employment. The VP of Growth will be responsible for leading, developing and managing all aspects of online marketing including demand generation, content and product marketing along with public relations. The individual must be heavily quantitative and data-driven, so a background in gathering, analyzing and prioritizing activities based on data is critical.

Our team is small, so this individual needs to be very hands-on and willing to do whatever it takes to drive growth for the organization. It’s critical for this individual to be comfortable with a highly technical audience. The position will report to the CEO and will be part of a strong executive team that’s passionate about our mission.


* Demand Generation: Drive user growth, both free and paid
* Content: Help the company better articulate our brand story
* External Product Marketing: Connect the Codecademy story and its value proposition to potential learners by creating collateral, landing pages, webinars, FAQs, alumni reviews and videos that drive consideration and purchase.
* Internal Product Marketing: What product recipes at different price points will learners will pay for? What are the intensive curriculum recipes that have the greatest demand and will avoid cannibalization? Which partners should we be co-developing curriculum with?
* Measure and improve: Drive marketing activities with data and improve key metrics
* Build a team: Lead and continue to build your team of internal as well as contract resources


* You must have previous experience in a marketing leadership role, preferably for a freemium/subscription SaaS service.
* You have an entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to achieving outstanding results.
* You are willing to get your hands dirty - this role involves extensive personal execution as well as leadership of others.
* You are super data-driven in your approach and decision making.
