Builder-In-Residence

Builders + Backers Venture Studio is seeking a full-time Builder-In-Residence to work alongside a variety of Builders working through our 90-day Idea Accelerator Program. The BIR will hear ideas, immediately see possibilities, and get excited about launching new companies. They think big, creatively and toward scale but understand how to build new companies of all kinds – from venture backed tech startups and creative economy ventures to impact companies and everything in between. They are adept at identifying the best low-fidelity experiment(s) to test the key assumption(s) of any idea and they understand how to leverage low/no code tools to test and try new things. Most of all, they have a finely-tuned ability for finding diamonds-in-the-rough and seeing those ideas through from concept to launch.

The Builder-In-Residence will work closely with our rapidly expanding portfolio of Builders participating in our Idea Accelerator program. In this role, you will:

-Help builders pinpoint the problem they’re solving and refine / expand their ideas, helping them see the magnitude and vision of what is possible.

-Pinpoint the core assumptions (what must be true) for each builder’s idea to work.

-Collaborate with them and other team members to craft rapid, low-fidelity ways to test that idea and take first steps.

-Assist in executing experiments and evaluating outcomes to identify the appropriate pathways for each builder and their idea.

The ideal Builder-In-Residence will

Be a Builder. You’ve been hands-on, you’ve been in the trenches, you’ve built, you’ve iterated, you’ve pivoted and then built again! Previous experience as a founder or early-stage startup employee is a huge plus! (Startup Generalists, where are you at !?)

Be a Relationship Builder. The Builders who go through our Idea Accelerator lean heavily on our BIRs for guidance, mentorship and support. The ideal BIR will be able to quickly build relationships with a variety of Builders of all backgrounds, skill levels and experiences. Being a strong relationship builder and an excellent communicator IS A MUST!

Be an Excavator. The ideal BIR will be able to quickly and thoughtfully work through a broad spectrum of ideas and be able to identify the potential that may be hidden beneath the surface. Help Builders to see and understand the potentially more scalable idea that is hiding within the idea they bring to the table.

Be a great team member. At Builders + Backers, you will be part of an amazing team who works very collaboratively to help our builders launch their ideas. As a BIR you will be in charge of pulling in the collective resources needed to help your assigned builders thrive and launch. You will also believe, as we do at Builders + Backers, that there are creative, untapped ideas everywhere and we can get them off the sidelines and into action by building together through the power of experimentation.
