We are looking for a tech lead to take ownership of our "Agency Experience" team, whose mission is the following:

Simplify agency onboarding and daily operations by building integrations with other tools (i.e rostering and payroll systems) & empower the Customer Care team to deliver outstanding support to a growing number of care agencies.

We are inspired by companies like Trainline (medium.com/@djo/captain-train-customer-service-d86883b9b02a) and believe that by having tech & support working hand in hand we can deliver an outstanding service - in an industry that really needs it.
* Accelerate growth of Birdie by building new integrations and building an open platform to facilitate integration by new entrants.
* Empower the customer care team to deliver exceptional support in order to retain those customers.

How you will contribute
(Team) Integrations
* Provide a product that integrates with existing tools and is easy to integrate with.
* Build integrations with partners in the social care industry to make Birdie accessible to as many care agencies as possible.
* Maintain our existing integrations and handle incidents if necessary.
* Extend and promote our OpenAPI to encourage innovation in the social care sector.

(Team) Customer Care
* Support growth as we onboard an increasing number of agencies.
* Build tools for our amazing Customer Care team allowing them to support more agencies as we grow.
* Improve web & mobile onboarding flows to allow customers to self-onboard.
* Build tools to allow delivering outstanding support while respecting customer privacy (highly regulated industry means interesting challenges!)

(Tech Lead) Leadership
* Build and lead a great team of engineers
* Coordinate 1-3 other engineers (in-house & contractors) to deliver the scope above.
* Recruit 1-2 engineers to work alongside you within this team.
* Mentor 1-2 younger engineers to help them define and grow into their career path.
* Encourage public sharing of knowledge as per our engineering values.

A rigorous technical profile:
* Strong experience with a structured backend framework (Django, Symfony, Java Spring, ..). We use NestJS and we love it.
* Experience with React, React-Native to work on the customer-facing products. Exposure to state management frameworks such as Redux and Redux-saga is also useful.
* Have knowledge of the AWS stack. We have an event-driven architecture based on lambdas, SNS topics and SQS queues to pull data and send it back to our partners.
* Experience building, maintaining, and monitoring REST APIs.
* Not afraid to get your hands dirty. Some integrations simply require calling REST APIs but some others are more exotic.

This is a very customer-facing role. As such, we are looking for someone able to empathise strongly with customers / other team members on a daily basis.
* Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Able to forge strong bonds with key stakeholders and speak at different levels of technical understanding.
* Have worked in customer-facing roles before - desirable
