We are looking for an outstanding marketing manager to raise aCoach.org’s profile with community based organizations and to help recruit the first participants interested in creating their own social justice advocacy campaigns. Your work will show how social media and online marketing can engage and activate a diverse group of organizations seeking to address problems in their communities.

This internship is part-time and while being based in the San Francisco Bay Area is preferred, it can be a fully remote role. If all goes well, this will become a paid position in the next few months. For now, you will work closely with all three founders, working most closely with the Head of Product. You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced advocates and build your network.

As an intern, regardless of whether you are remote or working locally in the Bay Area, you will have at least one weekly 60-minute one-on-one meeting with the Head of Product, where you will jointly review the work plan you've helped co-develop, as well as the work you've completed. We take a collaborative approach to the important work you'll be doing, so you'll also join regular calls/meetings with the founding team. You can also reach out to the founding team as needed and you'll typically get a response within a few hours.

Responsibilities:
• Make recommendations on the best social media and online platforms to reach our intended audience.
• Develop recommendations on best practices for communicating through the different channels.
• Start building our network, based on these recommended platforms.
• Develop online adds on Facebook and Google to promote our service.
• Create marketing messages that the product team can turn into landing pages.
• Advise on improving aCoach.org collateral and presentation decks.
• Develop content (articles, images, videos, etc.) that you’ll promote through our different marketing channels in order to attract diverse organizations.
• Contribute to our strategic plan and help us decide on the most effective ways to engage community-based organizations.
• Organize online and offline events to engage and support participating organizations.
• Support social justice campaigns by developing messaging and engaging the media.
• Assist in the development of training materials for advocacy coaches.
• Opportunity to learn first-hand how to conduct advocacy campaigns through access to course materials for the graduate-level “Health Policy Advocacy” course taught by one of aCoach.org’s founders, as part of the Advocacy Initiative (sph.berkeley.edu/leadership-development/advocacy-initiative) at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health.

Competencies:
• Dedicated to social justice issues with experience in some type of advocacy campaign.
• Excellent and timely communicator who enjoys moving projects forward.
• A creative thinker with outstanding problem solving ability.
• Innovative and ambitious, you challenge existing assumptions and see past limitations.
• Empathetic, and can relate to the community organizations we serve.
• Collaborative, you work well with small teams and aren’t shy about sharing your ideas.
• Skilled communicator with stakeholders and external audiences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements:
• Strong understanding of social media and experience managing different channels
• Experience working with small teams, with some level of remote collaboration
• Proven experience delivering on concurrent tasks successfully
• Experience collaborating with others as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Technical skills, including software development, are a big plus
• A passion for making the world a better place
