Accelerating the mastery of biology to advance human health
Product Designer (Multiple Levels)
At 10x Genomics, accelerating our understanding of biology is more than a mission for us. It’s a commitment. This is the century of biology, and the breakthroughs we make now have the potential to change the world.
Our software enables our scientists to better understand human health, such as pinpointing the differences between a cancer and normal cell and the genomic sequences the body makes in response to infection. We’ve built an ecosystem of powerful software, hardware, microfluidics, and chemistry to create products that are used by researchers around the world, including 97 of the top 100 global research institutions.
Our teams are encouraged to follow their passions and pursue new ideas in an inclusive and dynamic environment. The discoveries we enable together will lead to better technologies, better treatments, and a better future. Find out how you can make a 10x difference.
About the role:
We're seeking a Product Designer (hiring at multiple levels) to design software and web experiences that help scientists make important discoveries, faster. You’ll get the opportunity to design our Cloud Analysis product, build data visualizations and tools, and work with a multidisciplinary group of engineers, biologists, roboticists, and more.
Existing science knowledge is not required to apply, but you should have interest in learning about the great unknowns of biology. Join us in making a real impact in cancer research, genomics, and people’s lives.
About the 10x Genomics Product Design Team:
We’re a diverse group that values generalist skill sets, learning, and rational decision making. To learn more about us and what we’re working on, visit this page: https://www.10xgenomics.com/pages/product-designer/
How is this better than other Product Design jobs?
Use your brain cells to solve important problems for underserved users: scientists and researchers. Your work will directly accelerate the speed of scientific research and disease-curing discoveries across the world, including coronavirus (Vanderbilt Medical Center has been using our products to identify antibody genes from the blood of coronavirus survivors, and we've joined an alliance to develop antibody therapies for coronavirus.)
You'll get the opportunity to make a significant impact. Our environment is more autonomous than process-driven, and we focus on balanced, rational decision making.
The team you’ll work with is highly productive and smart, and spans from biologists to bioinformaticians to hardware and software engineers. We work with modern technologies, including Figma for design, and React, Go, and Typescript for development.
What you will be doing:
- Drive the design of impactful features that customers love.
- Work on a day-to-day basis with engineering, product management, and QA to build and launch high quality features.
- Create iterative concepts and designs in Figma.
- Gather user requirements (features, usability considerations, pain points) and conduct user research sessions.
- Take part in crafting strategy and roadmap across our software portfolio, and defining how design should evolve to achieve product success.
To be successful in this role you must have:
- You enjoy working on complex UX challenges. If you enjoy figuring out complex workflows that can’t be simply copied and pasted from another site/app, this is a good place for you.
- You have a generalist skill set and love to learn and share new things.
- You think design extends beyond just the screen, and enjoy thinking about holistic user workflows.
