Charity Engine grid is the world's cheapest, greenest and (until we paused due to melting servers) fastest-growing computing platform, with 100k+ monthly active PCs contributing 500k-1m core-hours daily, plus 100k+ IP addresses for uniquely powerful web-crawling and diagnostics.
More importantly, it scales on demand.
Whenever we switch on our online adverts, it grows by ~15k PCs every day - and that's not even at full blast, it's just what our servers can cope with. We ran the adverts last Summer, switched them off when our servers maxed out, and the grid still has 100k+ PCs online 7 months later - for a total spend of $15k.
Our CPA of compute resources is two orders of magnitude lower than purchasing from AWS - if AWS could supply 100k nodes with 100k IP addresses. Our next step is to make CE the biggest computer on Earth, literally.
Profits are split 33-33-33 between prizes for the public, CE itself and the charities (Oxfam, CARE, MSF, etc) - hence the name.
