I am an early-stage VC in technology companies. Partner at Lux Capital, currently investing out of our 3rd fund ($245m) in technology, energy and healthcare sectors. Previously I was an investor at General Catalyst Partners and an entrepreneur. Spent 15 years in Boston and now in Palo Alto.
I invest in founders and startups trying to solve important problems, from consumer/lifestyle companies to robotics, computational imaging, big data analytics, energy and healthcare IT.
I am not a momentum investor, but want to bet on big ideas that when they win, win big. I prefer technical teams that have depth of understanding of the space, and businesses that can truly differentiate themselves in the marketplace over the long term. I don't technology categories limit me, and hope to back explosive commercial success stories that also solve real problems in the world.
I take special joy in helping and supporting first-time entrepreneurs. I also co-founded RoughDraft.vc and StartLabs.org to support student technical founders.
Biggest personal achievement was probably obtaining my Ph.D. in physical chemistry at MIT. Presentations by companies with deep science/engineering background don't put me to sleep. But do tell me how you can build a billion dollar business out of it.
I love spending time with brilliant entrepreneurs who think creatively about solving important problems, and recruit strong teams that execute on their vision. I invest across technology, energy & healthcare sectors. Fund investments range from $100k to $10m. Personal investments are often smaller.
