I am an early stage venture investor focusing on Series A and earlier opportunities. For nearly the last 5 years, I've been a full-time venture investor in pre-seed through Series C companies. I spent just under 3 years at Deep Fork Capital, making pre-seed and seed investments in the Bay Area and NYC. Most recently, I was at Anchorage Capital Group, a hedge fund in NYC, which focuses principally on growth stage investing when evaluating private companies. At Anchorage, I made Series A through Series C investments. Prior to investing full-time, I led business development and partnerships at Wanelo, and co-led By/Association, an angel investor group, which made three investments.
I joined Wanelo as the first business hire after graduating from Harvard Business School. During those two years, I worked remotely as Chris Sacca's part-time associate at Lowercase Capital, doing whatever I could to learn the business from him and assisting portfolio companies like Twitter, Uber, StyleSeat, and Gumroad. Prior to business school, I worked as an investment banking analyst at Jefferies.
Looking Glass will invest against the themes of healthier living, enablement and empowerment (consumer fin tech, ed tech, sharing economy, SMB tools, products that facilitate access or self-expression), and sustainability and global impact. These investments will typically be in seed and Series A companies, but occasionally could be later.
I target companies which I can have an immediate impact on given my previous operating and investing experience, and I will only back companies that have a strong founder-product fit.
My deal flow typically comes from intros to founders from entrepreneurs I've worked with or backed before, seed funds that I frequently speak with, or from founders reaching out to me because of previous investing / operating experience that resonates with them.
If a founder allows me to invest, I will make it available to my syndicate. My investment decision is made only after thorough due diligence on the team, market, product, and company itself.
First, Bez discovered StatMuse by being an early adopter and patiently waiting on our private beta list for a few months (i.e., he found us before any other VCs by having his ear to the street). Shortly after receiving a private beta key, he led our Series Seed...more round and participated in our $10M Series A round later that same year.
Most importantly, Bez is the rare VC who cultivated the skill of constantly delivering value to his portcos when/ as needed, while never detracting value!
Whether it's joining you for a Sunday night biz modeling session, intro'ing top candidates from his network, and/or personally marketing you on Twitter, bottom line is that Bez is someone you want on you team!
Did I mention Bez knows (and has tested) every new, cool consumer app that hits the market? nice bonus :)
