Capital Factory · $100,000 Artificial Intelligence Challenge

Our coworking space introduces us to all of the tech startups in Austin and our Mentor network identifies the best ones for our Accelerator. Then we introduce them to their first investors, employees and customers.

Austin · SaaS · Marketplaces · Virtual Reality · Smart Cities

    About Capital Factory

Capital Factory is the center of gravity for entrepreneurs in Austin. Last year more than 50,000 entrepreneurs, programmers and designers gathered day and night for meetups, classes and coworking. We meet the best entrepreneurs in Austin and introduce them to their first investors, employees and customers.

    About This Program

This is your chance! Capital Factory is thrilled to announce that for July, we're giving one startup a $100,000 investment to the next big artificial intelligence company.

Austin’s top entrepreneurs have banded together to give one startup the chance to change the world. Any tech or consumer startup can apply on AngelList to pitch at our Funding Day on July 28.

“We want to see Austin entrepreneurs thinking bigger and shooting for the stars. If you’re really trying to change the world, we will help you get started,” said Brett Hurt, CEO of data.world and founder of Bazaarvoice, Coremetrics and Hurt Family Investments.

$100,000 isn’t all of the money you’ll ever need, but it’s enough for a scrappy team to focus full-time on building a minimum viable product and finding product market fit for about a year. We give you free rent, free hosting, a lot of other free stuff to make that $100,000 last as long as possible.

If you’re successful, you’ll validate the business enough to raise $500,000 and then raise a real seed round from a VC.

“Getting the first check is hard enough as it is — it’s even harder in today’s market if you are female. I’m looking forward to backing more diverse teams with women in key leadership positions,” said Jan Ryan, founder of Women@Austin.

Hugh Forrest, Chief Programming Officer for SXSW, has seen thousands of startups from all over the world. “Austin has emerged as one of the hottest startup hubs in the country — but we need a breakout company to take us to the next level. With so much brainpower in this ecosystem, we have the opportunity to create the next Google in artificial intelligence, health, mobility, virtual reality, or maybe something no one is thinking about yet.”

Think you’ve got a shot? Apply now on AngelList to be one of 5 teams selected to pitch on Funding Day on July 28. You could walk away with $100,000!

The best team that pitches at Funding Day will receive:
    - $100,000 cash investment on a SAFE or Convertible Note
    - Special access to an A-List of Austin’s top entrepreneurs who add value far beyond the money you received
    - 1 year of unlimited co-working at Capital Factory
    - Access to the Capital Factory Mentor network
    - Company formation by startup lawfirm Kastner, Huggins, Reddien & Gravelle (KHRG)

  • Seed San Diego
Seed San Diego · SeedSD Prospects

Capital and intellectual value that measurably moves companies forward.

San Diego · Carlsbad · SaaS · Software · Disruptive Models

    About Seed San Diego

We are a small group of investors who are determined to change the landscape for investing in San Diego. We will talk with you like we talk with our friends. We will ask you hard questions. We will laugh over drinks. If you can handle our candor, we'd like to meet you.

We invest in early stage companies with disruptive technology that need both capital and additional business insight to achieve their next milestone. We seek out startups with passionate founders and a bold vision who also understand their true strengths.  Ultimately we invest when the combination of SSD’s capital and intellectual value can combine to measurably move the company forward. SSD’s funding strategy is to lead Series Seed or Bridge to Series A.

    About This Program

We are looking for great San Diego based companies!

    -Application Process-

Submit Application- This is the first step and typically the most frustrating for Founders because it can feel like a black box. Don't worry, we don't use robots. One or more of our leadership team considers each application in detail to determine whether there is a fit. If there isn’t, we will let you know quickly.

Screening Meeting- OK! So you made it past the application and are on a roll. This is where we get to know you and your company. We are honest and, at times, very direct, with a well honed BS meter. Most of the time it's very clear what next steps look like at the end of this meeting.

Whiteboard Session- This is where we discuss how to empower your greatness. This includes but is not limited to capital investment, other resources and suggested additions to the team. You should come with a high-level plan and be prepared for an active conversation. During this meeting we typically bring in industry experts that align with the problem you're solving. The end result is a comprehensive plan on how to move forward.

SSD Partners Meeting- Subject to the outcome of the Whiteboard Session, the SSD team gets together to discuss capital requirements and other internal/ external resources needed to make the plan happen. This will form the basis for our offer and includes all SSD obligations.

Southern California Startup and Investor Network

    Westlake Village

    About 805 Startups

Startup and Investor focused programs in the 805.

    About This Program

The Regional Investor/Startup/Job Fair is an event that is held almost every month in partnership with 805 Startups, the City of Agoura Hills, and the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The event has been steadily growing in number of attendance and in number of exhibitors over the last four events.

The previous event saw over 175 people attend with 19 companies exhibiting.

The event features an expo floor, two panels of speakers, and some incredible food, brews, and wine from across the entire region of Southern California.

The event is designed to showcase the different companies, people, and cities that exist in the various startup ecosystems found in Southern California in order for people to build new relationships outside of their usual bubble.

The June 28th event should see a jump in attendance and exhibitors in thanks to new partnerships and sponsorships that will allow for more robust marketing efforts and additional on site perks like $1 beers from the regional breweries.

The panel discussion is live streamed via Facebook and later added to the 805 Startups YouTube channel. Through social media the reach is well into the tens of thousands of people that are exposed to the inspiring and educational content to help them grow their business or their career.

You will not only be placed into a role of influence and leadership within the community, growing your personal brand value but, you'll also make a direct contribution to many lives as they seek knowledge and motivation to pursue their dreams and help accelerate the growth of an emerging startup ecosystem.

    About TechCode

TechCode provides Incubation, Acceleration, Venture Funding and Strategic Consulting to companies all over the world.

Our Incubators provide startups with the space and access to the human capital that they need to build and sell their products. TechCode has established 12 incubators in Silicon Valley, Seoul, Tel Aviv, Berlin, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nanjing etc. and is slated to open 10 more over the next 12 months.

Our Accelerator provides startups with the intellectual capital (programming, mentorship, subject matter expertise and supply chain resources) they need to commercialize their technologies.

Our Venture Funds provide startups with the financial capital that they need to scale up. TechCode currently has two active funds.

Our Strategy Consultants provide later-stage startups and big companies with actionable insights to make better decisions about cross-border innovation, e.g. market entry strategy, supply-chain partnership and open innovation initiatives.

    About This Program

    Who should apply:
AI+ Startups should be solving problems and building products related to AI, Robotics or Transportation. We define AI+ as artificial intelligence reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, mobility, transportation and movement, as well as virtual reality, augmented reality, voice recognition, gesture control and machine learning. Startups are encouraged to apply if they are early-stage with a prototype and some traction. Startups should also have an objective to scale and operate globally. This Accelerator is especially valuable for startups that have product-market fit and some traction in the US and are looking for a streamlined way to scale globally and into China.

    Why should you apply:
There are three types of capital: financial, human and intellectual. TechCode can invest all three and helps startups build their product, streamline their supply chain, find and hire the right talent, syndicate and close financing rounds, strengthen their IP portfolio and gain access to a global distribution channel.

While we do not guarantee that we will invest financial capital in the accepted startups, some could receive an investment of at least $50,000 USD if they make it through our due diligence process. The Accelerator is unique in that it serves as a hands-on due diligence process for our venture fund.

Techcode does not charge any cash compensation or fee to participate in the Accelerator. If we invest at the end of our due diligence process, we invest at the same terms as any other investor.

    When to apply:
Applications are on an ongoing, rolling basis.

    Where is the Accelerator located:
The Accelerator is co-located at our US HQ in Mountain View, CA and Beijing, China. There will be several opportunities to travel to our China offices (we cover the cost of the travel) and learn more about operating (raising money, hiring talent, distribution channels, manufacturing, etc) outside of the US.
