I am an operator: product, design, team, operations. I enjoy helping startups get to launch, and identifying great opportunities in the process. I mentor through 500 Startups and StartX.

I design and build simple products that bring people together to achieve large goals. At Geni, I designed the interactive family tree and instant onboarding workflow that has become somewhat of a UX pattern. We incubated Yammer at Geni, and I designed and built the interface for the 1.0 product that won TechCrunch50 in 2008. Prior to those companies I designed one of the early social networks, Tribe.net, where we pioneered the groups and newsfeed features. In the late 90s I designed some of the earliest "build your own car" websites, which have become commonplace today.
Through all this I have always preferred small teams of engineers and designers, and that is how I have approached management, recruiting, and the overall building of companies. This is why I have an affinity for advising and mentoring startups today.
