Product

earthCell sells AA and AAA batteries to the $3B per year disposable battery market. We include a prepaid mailer to return the batteries to us for recycling, solving a significant pain point for consumers. We can recharge these batteries 100's of times, selling them again each time, before ultimately recycling them for their valuable materials at a profit. We will create a cradle-to-cradle consumer battery industry by capitalizing on an existing massive inefficiency. Profits can be excellent.

Jason Calacanis This is a super interesting startup I'm advising. They are basically working on Netflix for rechargeable batteries. I had a bunch of question on the model, then I saw their Kickstarter campaign explode and those questions were answered. Jason Rugolo great question re lifecycle. The short answer is yes, it is more efficient and green. The CO2 emissions from roundtrip shipping through USPS are tiny (like driving about one mile), and these are more than offset by the reduction in materials consumption and associated energy intensity of mining and production of single-use batteries. earthCell has enormous potential. The consumer battery industry is--arguably--the most inefficient industry around. AA batteries cost about $1.50, yet the cost of the energy in that battery is less then $0.01! Over 99.9% of the money consumers spend on batteries goes to things other than the energy that they care about buying.
